Building Bridges

Pupils in 2nd & 3rd class have been learning all about bridges recently. They looked at different famous bridges all over the world and in particular the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. We also learned about the different types of bridges including beam bridges, suspension bridges, arch bridges, viaducts and footbridges. Pupils then worked in groups and used basic materials including straws and tape to build their own bridge. Pupils experimented with the straws to see how best they could attach them to make sure the bridge could stand independently. Once they had the main structure completed the groups were very creative and painted the white line on the road way, added traffic lights and traffic including cars made from recycled materials, some with a working sun roof and wheels! Some groups added fairy lights to really enhance the overall appearance of the bridge. Take a look at some photos of their work from start to completion of the bridges below.
