The 2nd annual James Shevlin Memorial Quiz took place in the school hall on Tuesday 17th of February. Teams from Ardeevin N.S., Creggs N.S., Glenamaddy N.S., Glinsk N.S., Kilcroan N.S. and Williamstown N.S. were welcomed with 12 teams in total competing for the prestigious James Shevlin Memorial cup which was sponsored by St. Jarlath’s Credit Union as it was then known. Staff welcomed Carmel, Aidan & Martina Shevlin and all gathered took time to remember James as first and foremost a family man, an educator, a most loyal friend and colleague with many hobbies, interests and talents before the quiz commenced.
Quiz mistress Mary O’Mahoney and quiz master Marty Ward asked a well balanced mixture of general knowlege questions inlcuding music, maths, geogrpahy, history and current affairs etc. There were very few points seperating the teams on the final score board with Kilcroan N.S. winning the quiz with 49 points, followed closely by Glenamaddy N.S. on 47 points as runners-up. Congratulations to Kilcroan N.S. & Glenamaddy N.S. who presented with their tropies by Carmel, Aidan & Martina. All gathered in the hall enjoyed light refreshments following the quiz and the Shevlin family generously treated all teams to goodie bags.
