Our Green Schools Committee have been busy working towards obtaining our Biodiversity flag. Members of the committee tended to our bug hotel making repairs where necessary, they added a leaf pile and a rock pile to our fairy garden and filled our bird feeders. Together the members counted the array of trees in our school grounds and in the nature area and took note of the various species from oak to lime, birch to hazel. We are very fortunate in our school to have such a large grass area at our disposal with a vast amount of flora and fauna calling our school home. The members took notice of all the natural habitats in our school yard and in the nature area e.g. the stone wall, the hedges, the trees, the rocks. Eibhlín and Ruby carefully created a habitat map taking time to note all areas in our school environment which support biodiversity. We look forward to creating more spaces in our school environment for plants and animals to survive and thrive.
