All classes took part in a skipping workshop with Mark from Skip N’ Rope. We were out in the yard bright and early last Thursday morning in lovely autumn sunshine and begun with basic skipping concentrating on technique and timing. Each group progressed their skills throughout the session moving onto different skips and tricky footwork.
Pupils moved from individual skipping to pair skipping, shared skipping rope skipping, group skipping and whole class skipping. We also learned a few of the skips used by boxers. Mark gave us a demonstration of his skipping skills and were amazed with all the different skipping techniques.

For the final session we all went to the hall where pupils shared their skills with the whole school and we discovered that each group learned a different set of skills which Mark encouraged that classes share & teach each other!
It was great fun and a really great effort by every pupil throughout the day. Mark reminded us that 5 minutes of skipping is as good as 30 mins or running and a great warm-up for shoulders before going to Gaelic or hurling training.
