Recently the pupils in Junior and Senior Infants visited our local Post Office as part of our learning through Aistear.
Just a few days after we hosted Margaret, our local Post Mistress, it was our turn to pay Margaret a visit. The children were very excited to see Margaret in her place of work and to get the chance to post the letters they had carefully written to their partners.
The pupils eagerly boarded the bus clutching their letters in their hands. We received such a warm welcome from Margaret and her husband Marty on arriving at the Post Office. With the help of the 6th class girls, we formed an orderly queue and in pairs the children went up to the counter and purchased stamps from Margaret. Next, the children dropped their letters carefully into the post box. A lovely surprise followed, when Margaret presented each child with a generous gift in their very own officially stamped envelope! Marty then lead the children back into the Post Office to allow them to spot themselves on the CCTV cameras!
Soon it was time to bid Margaret and Marty farewell and return to the school. The children were buzzing with excitement for the rest of the day , with ‘best day ever’ and ‘I love the Post Office’ being overheard repeatedly. And as we treated ourselves to the lovely Easter chocolates Margaret and Marty had given us, we looked forward to keeping an eye out for the Postman who would soon deliver our letters to our homes.
