Engineers Week 2023

STEPS Engineers week took place from the 4th – 10th of March with pupils completing different engineering projects during the week. Pupils in 3rd & 4th class enjoyed working in small groups on engineering kits which included a working ferris wheel, a minion robot, a vibrating robot, a fan powered car, a working mini-jeep, buzz-off and a drawing robot.

Pupils showed great problem solving skills expecially when trying to figure out the circuits, motors and what needed to be changed to get their model working which included adjusting wires or adjusting where the motor was placed. It was great to see each group complete their project and appreciate the work of all other groups and watch their working model. The pupils were even creative and attached Lego figures to the ferris wheel seats but soon discovered that too much additional weight put a load on the motor !

We were also delighted to welcome past pupil Shauna Keane and Sandra Grogan from Boston Scientific, Galway to the senior room where they presented a STEM workshop on the human body. Pupils had hands-on experience of exploring the 3-D model of the human body and medical devices manufactured by the company. Take a loo at some photots below.
