Tuesday, 15th of March was designated Proclamation Day.
All schools across Ireland, celebrated our Irish culture, history and heritage. We celebrated and remembered the 1916 rebellion in school in front of a large crowd of parents, grandparents, neighbours and friends. On display, were the children’s projects on; and art work and poetry inspired by the 1916 Rising.
The children of Glinsk NS recited poetry, played some traditional tunes on the tin whistle and sang songs including James Connolly and The Foggy Dew.
As part of Proclamation Day, pupils in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th wrote a new school proclamation for 2016.
Caoimhe and Seán read out our proclamation which will be displayed in our school along side copy of the original 1916 Proclamation.
Afterward we, said a prayer for all those who died in the fight for Ireland’s freedom before going outside to raise the Irish flag.
Tegan and Sarah Jane read the Proclamation before Sargent Patrick Tighe raised the tricolour as we sang Amhrán na bhFiann.
