Our Green School Committee conducted a lunch box survey and this is what they found out!
When we used the results to find out how much waste we accumulated in one year, the results were shocking!
We discovered that over a year we use a lot of non reusable plastics and tinfoil. We also found that we could reduce the amount of recyclables we bring to school and instead use more re-usable items.
On the positive, most children use a reusable lunch bag or lunchbox and drink bottle. While a large amount of children did use plastic sandwich bags or tinfoil, many would use these more than once. We discussed a better alternative would be paper bags and kitchen towels instead of plastic bags or tinfoil if they needed to wrap up food or use a small reusable container. We realised that fruit already came naturally wrapped and there was no need to wrap it a second time!
