Last month Junior and Senior Infants studied the work of the painter Clementine Hunter. They learned how she grew up on a plantation in Louisiana, how she never got the opportunity to learn to read or write but taught herself to paint. The children loved her colourful depictions of Black Southern life during the early 20th century and they took inspiration from her painting Zinnias in a Pot to create their very own paintings of zinnias. They turned out wonderful.
