World Book Day 2019

We celebrated World Book Day on Friday the 8th of March with pupils and staff dressing up as their favourite book characters. Roald Dahl & David Walliams book characters are always popular and many very creative homemade costumes on the day. Gangsta Granny was on the prowl filling her handbag with precious jewels but there were plenty of superheroes such as Superman etc to keep all safe!

The week began with a visit from author Oisín McGann, author of the Mad Grandad collection an Head Bombz. Óisin shared his experience of his early writing opportunities and how he cam up with characters and ideas for his books. He read from his Mad Grandad series and drew different characters from his books in each room, giving some useful drawing tips.

Pupils in 1st, 2nd & rd class joined a live Skype call with Cressida Cowell author & illustrator of the “How to Train your Dragon” books on Skype Classroom. Pupil in the senior room tested their book knowledge with a bumper quiz. All pupils enjoyed some shared reading during the day.

Pupils in the infant classroom had lots of fun playing games with a parachute in the school hall with Miss Higgins which also marked International Women’s Day and schools were encouraged to share their stripes for #ShowYourStripes

Take a look at some photos from the day below.
